The earthquake forced the Japanese automotive industry into production shutdowns on an unprecedented scale. Now, even with some facilities ready to resume operations, the problems caused by the damaged nuclear reactors and rolling blackouts mean that full production is still a long way away. Unless electrical power can be increased to meet demand fairly soon, more manufacturing could be forced overseas.
